Ferens Art Gallery. There is a permanent art collection on display with its Flemish Old Masters, marine paintings, British portraits and contemporary art, which has been developed to include a collection of video art. There is a learning and interactive childrens gallery housed within one of the existing spaces which provides play and learning opportunities for children of all ages. It is situated in cental Hull in Queen Victoria Square opposite Hull Maritime Museum and it is open all year round Mon - Sat 10am to 5pm Sun.1.30pm to 4.30pm. Free admission. Hull Maritime Museum. Here in the Maritime museum discover the dangers and risks the seafares faced when going whaling and deep sea fishing. There are displayed collections showing Hull's contribution to Artic Whaling in the 19th century, models of sailing smacks to steam trawlers showing Hull's part in North Sea and Deep Sea Fishing. The merchants trade are represented by model figureheads and nautical instruments. Situated in Queen Victoria Square, Central Hull opposite Ferens Art Gallery. It is open throughout the year and opening times are :- Mon - Sat 10am to 5pm, Sun 1.30pm to 4.30pm. Free admission. Hull & East Riding Museum. This new museum has one of the finest collections of Roman mosaics in England and one of them is a mosaic floor taken from the remains of a Roman Villa found at Brantingham, a small village 10 miles west of Hull. This is a very interesting museum showing 235 million years of history from pre history to the Roman occupation and the dark ages. It unravels the mysteries of this region as far back as the Iron age. Situated In High St. in the old town between the River Hull and Lowgate. It is open throughout the year and opening times are :- Mon - Sat 10am to 5pm, Sun 1.30pm to 4.30pm. Free admission. Streetlife, Hull Museum of Transport. This museum has a fascinating collection of trams, carriages, veteran motor cars and cycles covering 200 years of transport. There is a simulated Mail Coach ride, with Victorian Hull brought to life with sounds and smells plus a period street scene. There has been extensive work done to the museum and it is now fully open with some new and exciting exhibits. Free Admission. Artic Corsair: The Last Surviving Sidewinder Trawler. The Artic Corsair was saved from the breakers yard and restored to its original condition. It was built in 1960 in Beverley and you can tour the trawler seeing for yourself the life a crewman faced in the frozen Artic waters where it fished. It is now permanently moored on the River Hull between Myton Bridge and Drypool Bridge behind The Streetlife Museum. It is open to the public for 3 days a week, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Opening Times are:- 10am to 5pm. A tour lasts approx 1 hour and the last one is at 3pm. Tours can be arranged on the other days for schools and private groups. Admission is £2.00. £1.00 Concessions. |
